Glass Thumper

Primarily for use with a pot still or similar. A thumper (or doubler) a cts as a sec ondary distillation stage within a single run, increasing th e final ABV (alco hol by volume) of th e spirit and creating a s mooth er product. Fill th e jar with flavourings such as fruit. As th e vapour goes through, it picks up, enhancing th e taste. A glas s distilling thumper (or thump keg/doubler) is a sec ondary vessel, often a mason jar or glas s co ntainer, pla ced between a pot still and th e co ndenser to a chieve a sec ond distillation, increasing alco hol proof and adding flavour by re-vaporizing alco hol vapours as th ey pas s through a liquid (water or low wines). This creates a noisy bubbling or "thumping" sound as vapours co ndense, heat th e liquid, and re-vaporize, effectively adding anoth er distillation cycle for s mooth er, higher-proof spirits. Glas s thumpers are particularly useful for adding botanicals, fruits, or oth er flavourings to th e spirit without th e risk of sco rching th em in th e main boiler, as th e heat source co mes from th e inco ming vapor, not direct flame. Made from 15mm co pper pipe, th ey co me with 1/2" straight fittings but can be altered to suit.
